USGA-GHIN
Handicap Information
The Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) is the largest handicapping service provider in the United States. Approximately two million golfers with GHIN numbers can post their scores at any of the nearly 9,700 clubs using GHIN in 39 states and Puerto Rico and have their scores routed back to their home club(s). Any club can perform inquiries to check on scores and handicaps for its own events. Golf Associations using GHIN have grown in membership on an average of 4.3 percent annually over the last three years. Unlike most other handicap vendors, GHIN services are offered to clubs and courses exclusively through State or Regional Golf Associations.
The USGA Handicap Indexes issued through Golf Associations by golf clubs are designed to allow golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis and thereby increase the enjoyment they derive from a round of golf. The Handicap Index is revised throughout the golf season and is based on golfers' scores and the relative difficulty of the courses on which their rounds are played.
