Devou Park Golf Course will be the site on June 12 of the Northern Kentucky qualifying tournament for the 2003 Kentucky Independent Insurance Agents Junior Classic (IIAJC) golf tournament. The 18-hole tournament is open to junior golfers – both boys and girls – 18 and under who have not started college. The tournament is sponsored by Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky.
The low-scoring players of this qualifier will be eligible to move up to the state tournament in Louisville at Quail Chase Golf Course on July 1 and 2. The state IIAJC is a 36-hole tournament. The low two boys and low girl from that play will qualify for the national IIAJC tournament to be held at Olde York Country Club in Columbus, New Jersey August 10-15.
As junior golfers, current PGA Tour players Tiger Woods and Billy Andrade each won two IIAJC championships. Andrade captured back-to-back titles in 1980 and 1981. Woods won the prestigious tournament in 1990 and 1992.
While Woods and Andrade both had successful runs in the tournament, there is a distinguished list of current professional players who competed in the IIAJC as junior players. They include Fuzzy Zoeller, Bob Tway, Craig Stadler, Casey Martin, David Duval, Hale Irwin, Phil Michelson, Justin Leonard and Bobby Clampett.
